I am currently the Ceramics Teacher at SkyView High School, Smithfield, Utah.

Previously I was the BTS Arts Specialist at Bear River Charter School a K-8th grade school.

Ceramics Teacher at Fremont High School, Plain City, Utah.

And semi-private adult lessons at Salty Peach Pottery.

Educational Philosophy:

My goals as an art teacher focus on understanding art and its essential place in our lives.

I start by creating a relationship with my class based on trust and care. Then, we move to the basic skills that will make my students competent at their craft. Students are there to learn a skill from me and it is my job to break every step down into a simple, learn-able process, facilitating success and student’s mastery of the medium. Finally, we celebrate uniqueness, a sense of place, and strategies for creative thinking.

I create a classroom environment that is safe for individuals of all walks of life, providing a place for them to learn a skill, a forum for self-expression, and a time to make connections between art and intellectual endeavor. In return, I demand high expectations of their work and care of the studio and tools.

I believe an art teacher has an incredible potential to reach students on levels that are often neglected in our current educational system. My dedication to art education fills my classroom and the community I work and live in.
